It's about Time.................

..........that I dug one of these.

Well Brett and I hit a one room schoolhouse site that dates back to 1876. Looked really good when we got there but soon found out that this place was not going to give up any treasures. I think Brett got a couple keepers there but I was skunked. So off to the site were I dug the Barber dime yesterday. This was Brett's first time there, and armed with the Etrac I thought he would clean up.
Between the 2 of us I don't believe we dug one coin there in over 2 hours. :icon_scratch:
Just happy I was able to find this, and have something to show my wife why I was gone for 5 hrs. again. :pain10: :dontknow: :whip2:

Re: It's about Time.................

I know it's hard telling, but the stem and case do call to mind the style of the 1880's. I'm always surprised by something that big left behind and no coinage to speak of.

Sweet relic!

Tim, I've wondered the same at times, in places where I'd find large items like that, but little to no coins. I'm thinking that perhaps groups came through for a one-time shot at an area, and anything they don't like, they toss away. At least in the woods...I've found old pocketwatches and stuff like that fairly shallow, and no coins, in various areas. Just a theory.

Re: It's about Time.................

Gotta agree Joe. Found three watches in one park about that size, all within an easy four to six inches. Only coins thereabouts were past that depth, recent clad/trash the only exception. Guess some of the purists just wanted to let us know they were there first!

Re: It's about Time.................

Awesome find bud, I have only found parts of old pocket watches.

Joe, its sounds reasonable, but this one was at 6".

Could have been laying down using one of his 3 Merry Widow's and it fell out... ;D ;D ;D

I only find parts of them or ones that are destroyed.

John nice find.....
