It's a Buckle Day! Can you help me estimate a date on this one?

I noticed a couple other buckle posts here today. I dug this brass one a few hours ago. It looks similar to the one identified as horse tack - so I am guessing that it likely is as well.

Any idea of the time period this one was made?

It is about 3" x 2.5".

Not sure on this one. It looks early. Did you clean it or did it come out of the ground like that?

I did clean it but the picture/flash makes it look much brighter and golden than it is. I'll try another pic to show it closer to the real appearance. And also a pic to show some ridges on the edges I thought were interesting-

It looks like it could be 1700's or early 1800's in a way but something about it just doesn't seem right. Maybe it's just me. Hopefully someone will jump in and help.

Thanks for looking - I thought I might have to bump this up myself ;D

I dug it up this afternoon at my parents house. It dates to around the 1820s.

It's very possible it's that old but like I said something just doesn't look right to me for some reason. I just can't put my finger on it though. I sure don't want to tell you it's old if it's not. I'm sorry I can't be of more help on this. Maybe someone will hop in here and help out.

Ok. You're right it can't hurt. If nothing else if we keep going back and forth answering each other maybe someone will see how many replies there have been and decide to look at it. :laughing7: :laughing7:

Nice looking buckle Bramblefind :icon_thumleft:

I'm guessing it is not that old because it looks like it has been worked with a dremmel
to form those concave areas. It has a 20th Century home-made look to me.

Just a guess. ;D

Thanks Mike ;D --- very interesting perspective you've got there. You might be on to something.

I've been meaning to let you know - the wine came today! :hello2: Haven't tried it yet - I will PM.

My plan exactly! :laughing7:

Well Bramblefind I think your plan worked. :laughing7: I'm going to throw another monkey wrench in the works and say that maybe it is an older buckle and someone ground the concave areas out later.

That's good news Bramblefind :icon_thumleft:
and your's and vayank's plan has entrapped my opinion on a buckle.
I look foward to further discussion on the subject.
Cheers, Mike :hello:

:( I guess it wasn't that good of a plan after all.

I bet I know the reason no one is commenting on this. They all saw it and liked it some much they went out to ty and dig their own. :laughing7:

Hey Bramble, Interesting buckle, but I don't have a clue on this one; at least my post will bump it up. Breezie

Hi Breezie - thanks for stopping by and contributing to plan BUMP (Buckle Unindentified = Maunfactured Posts) ;D

I bet I know the reason no one is commenting on this. They all saw it and liked it some much they went out to try and dig their own.

That might be it. It is a very attractive buckle.

Or they might be so overcome with envy that they opened the thread once and now cannot bear to come back knowing that such a buckle is not in their possession. :laughing7:

Otay, I might as well jump in the water and give my 2 cents on the B.B. (Bump Buckle.) I think it is not a modern buckle, but an antique, and the beveled edges were not done by a Dremel, but were hand filed. It is screaming 'mammy made.' ;D Breezie

PS: I wonder if the BB will be like the chicken counter? Are you having visions of thousands of post and readers? LOL .. ..and let me congratulate you again on solving that one. :headbang: Does the ID winner get to share a glass of wine? :laughing7:

Fine New Zealand wine for all who perform the buckle bump!

Thanks for the congratulations - I'm so happy it is solved!

Thanks for your input on the buckle! (I agree with you ;D)
