It's a BANNER find .. but what is it?

I had posted this in "Today's Finds" and initially thought it was a cosmetic tin. It still may be, but my research has turned up nothing. Additionally, the brass is much thicker than I have seen on cosmetic cases, and it has the profile of a jar top or something. There is also traces of rust inside, so it must have have some association with something iron or tin. It's octagonal shaped, and measures 1 3/8 in diameter. Anybody have a guess as to what it might be other than a Banner Piece of Junk?

Looks like it was some sort of compact case for like makeup or art or maybe the top too a gas or fuel can.. Banner was probably the companies name? Dunno but I bet that was funny digging it up!

Banner find, or found banner, either way it's a cool find. I have no idea what it would have been used for.

I wonder if it could have been a radiator cap or an oil fill cap on an old car or motor? The top is octagon, but the bottom appears to have been round, and a radiator cap would have metal inside to lock the cap tight on the fill hole.

I wonder if it isn't part of an antique Banner Oil Lamp. The raised part in the center of the back could be where it was attached to a stem maybe.

I think Mike is right; it's part of a BANNER oil lamp. As you can see from the pic below, the logo font is identical to yours.

I definitely vote BANNER! (Creskol, every time I look at your avatar, I crack up! Love it! Right now, I'm trying to figure out if Mike's avatar is a cat in a wooly hat and scarf. :laughing7:)

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions everybody! I now believe, too, that it is related to a Banner oil lamp, which I didn't even know existed, so not only did I get a plausible ID, I got an education as well! Thanks again everybody .. I'll mark this as solved.

PS: Bryanhashemi .. I live in central Virginia.
Breezie ... Thanks for liking my "teeth" ... They smiled at me when I told them.
