Ok, here is an interesting topic for all:

What are some items that you would personally be willing to overpay for?

This is going to be an opinion based thread, as there is no "right answer". Please give a brief explanation as to why you would be willing to overpay for an item.

For me, if I find a copper coin that has great eye appeal and is unique in a "love it" way, I am willing to overpay. I find myself overpaying for local items of historical significance, especially if they are unique in some way. Lastly, I have often overpaid for vinyl records - typically on stuff related to the Beatles or old 1st pressings of punk bands.

I seem to overpay for 1/10 gold eagles. I would like to get them for spot but hasn't happened yet.

I will overpay for Mexican Libertads, and most Perth Mint silver coins, but only $2 over spot. HH

only local History Books/info/maps/articles/photos
I even found a studet's report on local history that had a Value to me.
But only copy was at a library. so photo copies had to do.

Things like that can be very rare, But even in next to trashed condition,
Cover gone pages missing, stained or torn.

If what is there is possibly important to my Knowledge,
I'd pay almost anything.
(Within my financial ability of course)

Jeff,

Why am I unable to "like" your post?

Im currently "bidding to win" on a record that I haven't seen come up for sale in 3 years. I actually think it will go so high that I wont be able to afford it but I still have my fingers crossed.

Depends on the context of the word overpay.

If it means overpay and I lose money in the end, then the answer is definitely none.

If it's overpaying what the consesus believes is the market value price because I think I can get more, the answer would be some.

Although, I don't think I have ever really "over paid" via book value, I will step up and pay more or stretch my budget to get a collection that contains a couple of early 1800 low mintage U.S. coins in XF-45 or better condition. I currently have one little group of coins in it that I intend to keep just two such coins out of it and instead of hoping to make a profit, all I want to do is get my original cash investment back and put the two 1830's coins I want to keep in the safe for my daughter to find in 30 yrs or so. I am so cheap, that is my idea of overpaying. LOL

T.

My one weird collection (I'm sure all of you have one too, that one thing that you accumulate for no reason) is vintage hats, specifically of the 70's/80's trucker variety. If I see one that I can't live without, I'll pay a little more. I rarely pay more than what I could re sell it for, but excited impulse buying happens occasionally.

Wooden cigar store indian. Always wanted one. Never found one that appealed to me...

same here on always wanting one. But what in my mind,
how it should look, Just isn't there.
Or if I do find it will cost more then a house :tongue3:

the ones I see look like poor repros

I was looking for a 1984 dated Trinadad and Tobago Olympic Team Pin for 13 years. Finally, in 1997, one came up on ebay. I bid 5 times finally maxing out my bid at $110. I won the auction for $8.10 (including shipping). Now, because of various deals I've made and estates I've purchased, I have 3 of them...

What a random item to covet. What is so special about it to make you want one so badly? Just curious.

I tend to overpay a bit for colonial coins I need for my collection, especially if they happen to be rare ones or have that perfect color and surfaces.

3. Vintage/Retro video games, consoles, and accessories. It's for my future man cave :)

This is exactly why I buy this stuff any chance I get.

IMO, the train is leaving the station and I want to be on board for this trend/craze.

Yea I test and bag all of the NES games that I find. A good tip: Sometimes the cords and wires are worth more than the consoles and controllers. I have no problem selling the consoles but I keep all of the original branded cords that I can find.

Right now I have a bunch of Atari games and a few Collecovision games. There seems to be no market for them. I need to figure out how to get rid of this stuff.
