Good afternoon all...
I've been out of Country (Italy) since Friday. Sorry so late on the most recent finds... I found an Italian Button that we've done some research on and asked the Italian locals of its origins, but the closest we've found out is that it's most likely off the coat of a high ranking Carabinierei (police) officer many years ago. The button has three Eagles or Falcons on it, and have the word ASS, NAZ, ARNG, MONT on it. Anyone else wanna help out in this research project. :icon_thumright: CabrinieriButton1.JPGCabrinieriButtonBackside.JPGLireAll.JPGLira1.JPGLire2.JPG
My Italian neighbors came to me with this metal piggy-bank they had lost until recently. It was was from 25+ years ago when they were youngin's, and they asked me to figure out how to open it (they have no tools). An hour later, I had the piggy-bank opened. To my surprise, there were Lira's dating back to the 1950's, and there were all sorts of denominations as can be seen in the pics below. Most are in great condition since not being touched in soo many years! As I was leaving, the brothers asked me to please take the coins as a gift from them, and to keep them for my collection (for my boys), and maybe they will be worth something in 50 more years!!! I was honored at this gesture, and it made me realize all of the friendships and memories I'm making while in Italy "Thanks to Metal Detecting"!!! Again, Thank you to all the MD'ers out there keeping this hobby Alive and Flourishing.... I will keep the pics and posts of all hunting trips coming!!! In the next few months, I will hunt Lake Garda, Italy (WWII stomping grounds) and Croatia (beaches and land)!!! It sucks that I can't hunt for American coinage since I'm in Italy, but reading yalls posts of all your finds keep me going!!! Until then, I will keep on collecting the Foreign coinage and relics!!! Have a great day all!!!:hello2:

The first few abbreviated words on it are Associazione Nazionali, the third may be Artigiani (i think it reads ARTIG,rather than ARNG). The last one I have no idea.

I think the button may have to do with Associazione Nazionale Artiglieri da Montagna - the mountain artillery regiments.

I found a site in Italian that looks to have some good info. but I am struggling with the translation:

Artiglieria da Montagna

Bramblefind,
Yet another good call!!! My landlord is the one who told me the button was possibly from the Carabinieri. My wife found this page a few days ago, but I guess I wasn't listening to her (imagine that).... lolloolol.... She is too dang smart... I will continue to look for the button image based on this site you sent. Thanks Bramblefind.... Good looking out...:coffee2:
