Went out today MD a couple hours from the house with a friend . The area was close to the beach and was the area of the last battle of the civil war

http://www.qsl.net/w5www/palmito.html

Most of it is a federal game reserve but after talking to a park ranger we found out that we could MD a small area that was public and not part of the reserve. The first pic is the beach just down from where we hunted the flats. The second pic is my first musket ball, and the last pic is me a few miles down the road at the historic marker that is reference in the above link. I am tired and beat but it was a great day.

WTG..... Thats a good find I would go back if I was you too. I ve got a ?. I heard if the musket balls are white in color instead of the grey. that means they are def. old and not recent. Asking this because I ve found several musket's in my parents front yard but I just blew them off thinking that they werent the real thing. new age I guess you could put it. But there soild white. Just wondering. Thanks! and keep swinging

White is definiately old. It takes a long time to oxidize to the white patina.

That's one cute historic marker your standing next too. ;)

Congrats on the Musket Ball :)

lol I was feeling that old by the end of the day, and trust me 8hrs dragging the 2500 around I was done for. Kicking myself in the butt all day that I did not bring my crutch(the ace250) but I left it because they told me it would not do good on wet sand and also I know I know I need to get in the hours with the 2500 to learn it. My god though I felt like I had fought a battle myself by the end of the day.

A nice peice of history there. I've got some old, white musket balls from teh battlefield where they fought the Battle of Knocknanaus, the largest battle of teh English Civil War fought on Irish soil. It's an amazing feeling to pull one out of the ground and consider the age and the fact that the last time it saw the light of day was 440 years ago, possibly flying through the air at a human target.
