It seems to be chrome or nickle plated.

That would be a lead for a horse, though broken of course.

That is the feeling I had when I first dug it up.

You could just hook that closing hook on a rope
or halter, or what ever.

its a quick release many times used with a tied down in a horse trailer...modern

lets say a horse starts acting up in a trailer and wants to pull back or sit down...all' that's is needed is to pull downward on the slide and its instantly released...

now the training begins
