Okay, all kidding aside . . .it looks like a vintage 1950s 'chalkware' piece. Is it ceramic or chalkware? I sure you remember the chalkware figures that were given away at local & state fairs/carnivals whenever the Carney didn't guess your weight or age correctly. I'm at the shop now, so I don't have time to search, but GOOGLE vintage chalkware to see if you can find a close match. :) Breezie

Although I haven't found this one yet, I've determined that it is a wall plaque of a Buddha Goddess. It's made of some type of plaster or chalka and unless this one is extremely rare, I paid the right price for it. Thanks for the link Breezie.

Paleopilot, Chalkware is basically made from plaster, so if you're undecided whether it is chalkware or not, the weight should tell you. Chalkware is fairly light. Your sculpture was probably made between the 1930s-1950s, which was after the Great Depression. Chalkware was inexpensive, and it provided decoration for those who could not afford more expensive pieces. Check on eBay for vintage chalkware, and you can get a general idea of the going prices. The prices are all over the board from low to high, and of course 'condition' and 'maker' are the two largest factors in pricing. :) Breezie

Yeah...that's where I was searching. This thing is quite heavy, about 12 ounces and the dark color of the material, where the paint chips are, seems like something other than the chalkware I'm familiar with. Not sure what it is for sure. I noticed the prices too, although the condition is
a bit rough, It might be one of the rare ones. Thanks for helping Breezie, I'm gonna keep looking for awhile on this one, after all, It's still talking to me!

I believe it is an image of the Hindu goddess Parvati or perhaps her warior aspect Durga. Probably has Thai or Siamese origins. Very interesting piece. I would love to know it's history.

Thanks for that capt, I'm real curious as to the history of it also. I'll be sure and post any new findings.
