Decided to relax yesterday after work, stopped at my bank and got some seed money and started out down the road.
First bank - $10.00 in halves. All Bi-Cen...This bank never has half dollars in over the three years that I have been working it..
Second Bank - Nothing
Third Bank - $200 in CWR. Took them all - Nothing
Fourth Bank - Held the door for a nice older lady (upper 80's lower 90's), she was carrying in a box. She was hobbling in using a cane, I minded my own manners and politely stayed behind her. Got up to the line and the first teller helps her and the second teller waits on me. I ask for half dollars and was told that the teller next to me had $20.00. Next thing I know the teller says she now has $80.00 dollars in half dollars. The lady had brought in $60.00 dollars worth of halfs. My head spun around like "Cary" and I had to wipe the drool from my mouth. I thought for the first time I am in the right place at the right time.... Went over to the other tellers station and paid her for the items and noticed the little old lady had also brought in a dime roll. Again, had to do the, "Under Cover - Wipe your mouth" move we all have done....Well got everything out to the car and went through it, oldest dime was a 1965.. Went through the
half dollars and found a single solitary 90% Kennedy. Guess that was Gods reward for helping her.
Turned those at my dump/savings bank and continued on with a fresh $300.00 in my pocket. Stopped at another bank and they had $100.00 dollars in halfs. As I was rim checking them I noticed a funny "Clad" half dollar. I pulled it out and it was a 1967 "Proof", almost missed it because it was not the normal silver color. At that point I started checking every half dollar individually instead of the old "Rim" check technique.
Stopped at two other banks on my final destination to dump at my CU. Pulled $300.00 out, found two silver coins and deposted $312.10 . I am not sure how that happened but I will take the extra $13.00 and change.
Total take: 1 64 Ken and 1 67 Proof Ken.
Had a great relaxing time for a couple of hours after work.
