Went out Friday with another member for a hunt at a few cellar holes. Strapped on the new elliptical HF coil and tried out the XY screen out. It was more of a see what will happen type of hunt, having no idea really on the settings and how the coil would react to the heavy sod covered site. I was happy with this large two piece Victorian picture button was the keeper for the day.
Yesterday afternoon I couldn't resist the 55F sunny day so off to a well hit site to get some practice in on hte new coil. The soils are very kind to the finds here and have dug many tokens and have hit it hard with the Etrac and many times over the past year with the Deus 11" coil.
I was surprised to see finally the corn was cut and the sad part the backside of the site was just rolled down making a heavy mat of stalks.
So after going up to 74 Hz and setting the disc. at 3, I was able to get the days keeper down in the iron at a good 8+" in the sand soil.
I really thought I had an early token of some sorts when I dug the head stamp. I was just taking a photo of it and I heard a car skidding to a stop on the gravel road behind me. Out jumps a grey haired witchy looking old gal yelling "I got seven of those-how many have you got?"
I slipped the find in my upper coat pocket and slowly turned and said "Seven what?"
Her reply was " 7 Raccoons, are you testing soil conditions?"
Oh what one runs into while hunting in a corn field.
Nice lady but a bit off.
