Last weekend I dropped my daughter off at her friends house. I was down the road 30 seconds when the mom called me and asked if the dad could go along metal detecting with me. I said "sure, it'll be fun!". So I turned around and picked him up. I have hubby's extra detector in the van, so we both could detect. Before we left the house, he told me a story that went something like this...
"My mother's (d2000) parents buried 4 coffee cans of coins in their yard. They only found three. Her family have been to the home place over the years digging and looking, but never found the fourth can. A foundation to the shed/chicken coop is still there. The house was sold in the 30's, and only a clearing in the woods to it remains."
So we decided this was the spot we were going to detect. We found the trash pile right away (not far from where we figured the house foundation to be). Pulled up some fence wire, rusted soup and coffee cans, old tobacco tin, an old toy truck (in pieces) that has metal wheels, along with misc. trash.
Hubby came home last night, and his wife has off from work. Four of us will hunt. So all week long I have been planning the hunt for today, to be more prepared. A box for the trash & odd finds. A shovel. A cooler. Bug spray. Sunscreen. It's going to be a long day!
WILL TODAY BE THE DAY??!! Will keep you all updated!
BTW, just love everyone's posts! HH!!
JUNE 22------We went out yesterday later in the afternoon for a short hunt. We found the garden spot. We decided to take some sort of markers to mark the corners and hunt around the edge and near the largest trees. It is full blown woods now with little clearing, and strenuous hunting. The bugs--ticks, mosquitos, spiders--are terrible. I found a 1956 wheatie, but was only about 3" down. We are going to try again the beginning of next week. Yes, we are narrowing it down!
