I found this half of a tool today in a civil war camp in west central Mississippi. I have no idea what this tool was used for but am now wondering if this is some kind of dental or medical tool. Does anybody know or have knowledge about these type of tools? Or is this something totally different? Thanks for any help you can give.

Kind of looks like blacksmith tongs, although it may not be heavy enough. :icon_scratch:

Just for clarification it probably started out as tongs but not blacksmith tongs because
the handles are too short. I think they were probably for removing stones from the quick
of the horses foot. They were probably used for the same purpose even after they broke.
