My cousin owns some land and I was hiking with my dog and found lots of interesting things, I plan to go back with my detector when it cools off about 15 degrees!

Anyhow, the last four pictures looks like a jack of some sorts? In the one picture of it, it looks like a star of some kind, not sure if that is a makers mark or what that is. It weighs about 8 pounds.

I continued to hunt with my eyes and came across this... Is this an old moon shinning site?

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated!

If it is any tips for detecting the area would also be appreciated!

Looks like it could be an old still site to me. Is there a creek nearby? They would have had to have a water source. The "jack" looks familiar but I can't place it.

They do use a lot of copper, but not necessarily. moon shiners used whatever they had available. Here's a pic of a still made from an old fuel oil tank and a beer keg.

Also I just figured out what the "jack" is..... It's part of an old office chair. The threaded part goes down into the base and the seat and back attach to the brackets.

Hi, Thanks for the comments, I know there is a creek about one or two city blocks from here, I will have to for evidence of a past creek closer by. We don't have any water in our creeks right now, so it is hard to tell where any water is or use to be, I will get out there tomorrow as it is suppose to cool off and rain! YIPEE!!!

Thanks for the photo! I love photo answers! Also I know they made everything out of solid stuff back in the day, but if that is off of a chair, I would have to guess a barber chair, not an office chair. I found that about a quarter mile from the other stuff.

We found an old still in the deep woods here in Missouri once. Had been there for yrs. Just the cooking vat & cooper coil for condenser. Would bet the meth head scrappers beat you to any copper. Your stuff doesn't look like what we found but I don't know. Good luck.

I'm on the fence with the still idea. Some of the stuff looks like parts from a gas water heater. The can you have looks like an old kerosene jug or fuel can of some sort. That small hook on the top of the spigot is to hang your bucket from while you fill it (they have a similar setup on the 40 gallon drums of malt syrup at my local brewery supply). If it is a fuel can, the broken glass you saw may be the remains of an old oil lamp?

Nevertheless, it's all pretty cool stuff! Hope you can find goodies with your MD!

Thanks for the feedback, I did get back there today and found some old bottles and an old lock, it took me all day to find the site again, I hope to get back there tomorrow. If it is an old dump site, any suggestions for weeding through all of the stuff?
