Hi again, thanks for your patience as I'm just starting out. I picked this up at a garage sale and I'm not sure if this is real or fake. It is a Gucci lighter. I've searched for others in this make but haven't found one. Thanks again. 053.jpg054.jpg055.jpg056.jpg

I understand completely why he is suspicious. Have you ever seen a ring with a BOLDLY STAMPED karat mark? Or 925 stamped so large it barely fits the width of the Bracelet? These are the signs of a fake.
Gucci doesn't need it's box or it's product to say "MADE IN ITALY" in 24 pt type. The stamp doesn't make the product. If you scrutinize an object, it's quality reveals itself. It doesn't need a logo you can read a block away. Yes it will be marked, but not like that. This is just my opinion.

It's real It's a cigar lighter made for Gucci by another company and fairly expensive. Prestige item sold in cigar(upscale) stores and were between $100-$200 . I almost bought one here at the Humidor stores. They were much cheaper than Dunhill, but still nice. Does it work?

You know, batcap you got me to take a better look at this and I should at this time take my money out of the bet. I've see so much fake Gucci purses, watches and all the personal accessories, but never thought the counterfeiters would go after the Gucci smokers market, plus not sure Gucci themselves would like to be known for supporting cigarette use and ever stamped their name on products for smokers. As I look at the lighter it is just a inexpensive butane type not much different then the ones at the convenience store counter. Nothing at all like a Dunhill or ST Dupont lighter.... Thats it my bets out and I'll be sitting back on the fence with this one.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I have my suspicions too and that's why I wanted you guys opinions because I value it. I felt that the lighter should have a stamping on the bottom as diggumup has stated. I have a dollar in it so nobig deal, but I just didn't want to sell someone a fake lighter and not know it. Integrity is more important to me than making a buck on someone unknowingly. Thanks again

I still think it's probably authentic. Take it to an upscale tobaccanist and they can give you a better insight than you can get here. As far as the size and placement of the stamp denoting authenticity, I respectfully differ. The American market is frequently more interested in the label than the item itself, and a boldly marked item will always find a niche in the American marketplace. I prefer understated elegance but Gucci itself has many items boldly marked. Have you looked at Gucci purses covered in the GC mark recently? They have become quite popular.

Does it have a quality feel to it? Or is it lightweight and cheap feeling? I guess there are no other identifying marks on it anywhere other than the lettering on the side of the lighter? I've never seen a "real" Gucci lighter that wasn't properly marked (impressed) as such on the bottom. I have sold a dozen or so different types of Gucci pieces and there is always a mark besides the initial logo. Even the ceramic ashtray I had was marked on the underside. I have a key chain right now that has the Gucci logo on it, it is also marked like a piece of jewelry, you need a loupe to see it. Gucci is more apt to put their logo on something (double interlocking G's) versus spelling out their name on something. It's the logo that people recognize. I've never seen a Gucci purse with Gucci spelled on it, only their trademark double G logo.

These days you never know really know without a little investigative work. If it was a watch I'd say there's a good chance it would be real because they tend to not bother with the packaging. For other stuff I have no clue, but I can tell you I would have also thrown a few bucks on it to take a chance.
