I need some experts on a visual inspection of my finding, need to know if you guys have any idea wether this is gold or not.
Can't say where its from but, it been under sea water for a long time. Brass and copper would've corroded wouldn't it?

I couldn't figure out what those white spots are.

btw, I don't have it with me . I cant give any more pictures.

thanks

Sea water would have crusted gold as well. White spots are either calcium scale or barnacles adhesion disk possibly. A quick way to see if its gold is to get womens cover girl foundation in a light beige skintone. Make a patch on your fore arm let it dry. Take the bar and with the edge, drag it across the patch. If its 10k or more it will leave a greenish to black line. Funny hu, I found this out when my wedding band left a black streak across my forehead at a wedding of a friend. Quite embarrassing but useful.

Curious thing. I'm not seeing "Jaja" on it (but note that JaJa Gold is a modern Dutch cigarette paper brand, so advertising novelty springs to mind as a possibility).

What I do see is '1579' running across the right hand end, in equally modern typeface to the 'GOLD' lettering.

it looks like the " gold " is worn off the letters and numbers from abrasion . Does it feel super heavy like gold or more like the weight of painted pot metal?

Looks like the gold paint is peeling off the letters.

I don't believe for a minute that it's gold... but what is it? Or perhaps more pertinently, what was it for? And apart from the 'GOLD' marking what does the '1579' mean?
