is there any sign of driiling where the stem would be? if not it may be an effigy carving. the bowl may have been the socket of the bone. either way, a very nice find

No sign of a drill hole, I can tell that when I look through the magnifiying glass is has reddish paint in the groves in some places. Maybe it is a rock, cause just now I noticed under the bear's mouth and in that hollow place it is sparkly.

I put it on the scanner, hopefully this will show more detail. I will try to get the front of the face. It will be hard to stand it up that way without tape.

it does look more like pipestone in the last pics. maybe an unfinished pipe. heres a pic of a fish effigy i dug at a rock shelter a while back. hope your spot produces more. mine sure did.
