Here is another mystery item found tonight. It almost looks like a giant cotter pin. Is this off of an old wagon or something similar? As with my other postings tonight, this was found in an area that had an 1880's-1890's logging camp nearby along with narrow guage railroad tram tracks going close and then has been used as a cattle ranch up to the present day. Any help is always appreciated.

Thanks,
Doug

Re: Is this off of a wagon?

I am guessing that you are right. They were found about 15 feet apart. One in the dirt and the other in a dry creek bed. Now I want to go back and see if I can find the rest of it. :D

Re: Is this off of a wagon?

I may be wrong on this but it kinda resembles an old scythe handle. Here is one found by another member. Its a little different but maybe a different style and manufacturer but the same purpose. The wood handle may have been held on by the rivets and rotted away.

Bolt on left, other smaller fasteners along piece and the right piece appear permanent/designed that way. Maybe a leg/stand?

If you look at the bottom right you can see the nib that the neck yoke ring rides against to hold back the wagon .

Zoom in on pic and it's the piece on either side attached to the board.

The one BCH posted also same function/style, but much bigger.

All you need to do is put http//www. in front of oxbowtrade.com and you should have http://www.oxbowtradeco.com/, or better yet just copy and paste the url from top of the page.

Here is the parts section but I cant find "tongue iron". http://www.oxbowtradeco.com/cats.php/Parts Can you direct us to it?

Re: Is this off of a wagon?

Thanks ,BCH . I'm not 'puter literate to do that . That's the modern version . Originals were forged to
fit the rounded wagon tongue then rivited to the tongue like the one found .
