I bought a new Bounty Hunter 840 for $209.99 from Montgomery Wards in Waco, TX, in 1980. I still have it and the receipt. I used it a lot for about 2 years, then got busy with job and family. I didn't use it more than a few times a year for a while. When it started giving trouble in about 1997 (?), Bounty Hunter had changed hands and my warranty was no good; I put it in the closet and left it. In about 2000, I bought a BH Tracker 2D/707. It was a motion type and I never liked it. Several months ago, I got the urge to get back into MDing. I bought a Tracker Lone Star; then just a few days later saw a Tracker IV that was a demonstrator. It had never been outside, just as a demonstrator inside a MD shop. I bought it because it was a bargain. Of course, both of these are motion type. I thought I'd get used to them; but when I saw a BH 840 on eBAY, I got excited. I made an offer on it; but was turned down. It was still on eBAY a week or so later. I made another offer and was turned down again. I finally bought it for $70, including shipping. It came from a pawn shop in Louisiana. After I got it and used it a time or two, I got my old one out of the closet and by comparing them, I found the problem with the old one and repaired it. They have the adjustable disc, and the adjustable ground balance. I love the single tone and the way I can pinpoint my target so easily. Now I have two that are alike and I really like 'em!! I'm thinking of selling the other 3.
