Is this just a thingie? Or what?

Wondering what on earth this item is. It's been bugging me for a lo-o-ng time.

I don't actually have the piece and it's not mine, but identifying it has become my self-imposed mission.

There's a good clear photo of it on a Mysterious symbol - 011 , (click the photo on the webpage to enlarge). It's a site which specializes in explaining the meanings of various Christian crosses, but they don't know what this particular cross means.

I've offered suggestions, as several other people apparently have, but nobody seems to know for certain what it is. The website owner gave me a bit more info, in that the cross was found in Tasmania. But that probably doesn't mean much. It could have been made anywhere in the world.

Anyone any thoughts?

High school shop class Celtic Cross made from two other crosses and an available disc.

nothing mysterious about it, someone made it out of available materials for a personal reason.

It means something to the person that made it. If you never get to meet that person, you will probably never really know what they had in mind. I disagree with the numbers not being a date. I think if it was made and dated before the World Trade Center, then it might be the date of a future looked forward to event, like a marriage, maybe a gift for a sweet heart, something you will probably never know.
