You should consider that an "authentic" button... Those eagle buttons were made until 1902 for the US Army and were worn afterwards by many folks on all types of clothing even after being officially phased out.

I think you can consider that an unmarked (which is common) eagle button prolly mid to late 1800s.

I would say its most likely a real button as in old -- its a "general service" sheild type eagle with a Plain back -- they were used before the civil war , during the civil war and up until 1902 when the "great seal" button design was adopted . you might have a civil war item --- depending if there was action in the area where it was found.
