Help! We found this egg shaped rock in Iowa. Decided to cut it open while cutting geodes to see what was inside. The bottom indent showed a milky bit making us think it could be a geode. outsideegg.JPGinsideegg.JPG

Hmmm it sure looks like it could pass for a geode

but Here is a Century egg (not petrified) which looks surprisingly similar
to the geode. if I'm understanding the second pic is not your find ?

It appears similar to a geode but at the same time looks like an undeveloped dinosaur egg! Take it to a local Rock and Mineral Shop and they should be able to tell you. In any case, it should be very collectible!

I haven't a clue (what it actually is) but it sure does get ya thinking ebaynut.

We have a rock forum here why not put it there and see what they say about it.

It has the shape of a big ring on the inside. It's a sign to get the metal detector out!

My first thought was geode too but it would be cool if it turned out to be an egg. Welcome to TNet! :hello:

The second photo IS the same rock. showing outside and inside in 2 pics. Also, we were on vacation when we founds this and it may have come from Tenn. or KY. Did not take note as very unsure if anything at all.

It is NOT an egg, just a geode. But if you slabbed and polished it, it would look really nice!
