Hello again, I found this coin last winter on Long Island in same spot where I found my possible Cob coin I just posted. It gave me mixed #’s on my CTX3030 about 10” down.
I did test it for silver and it came up positive of having some silver in it, think it’s a 8 Reales but it is slightly larger than one, maybe from the large number of chopmarkes? Thinking it’s an early counterfeit. What do you think it can be? 01FCA901-20F3-4E17-9786-706136CFF001.webp3727235E-8FFB-41DC-ACBB-ED0D7CD6B11A.webpEF11BB75-7E1C-4631-9769-6C0DAEC27F2E.webp9FC2BF3F-716A-4537-9BA7-50D53F62042A.webp929A85AC-A569-4454-BCA8-6D178AF9A856.webp

Ill tell ya I saw recently a gold coin the person thought was fake recently found out it was 1 of 7 that were made so be careful of calling it counterfit Looks cool to me!!!!!

I Think the Chop Marks Prove it was Checked & Declared Real Over & Over.

& I Wouldn't be surprised that a Coin would Enlarge being struck so Many Times..

so would a Silver dime being hit with a Hammer 100 times

I kinda see Chinese characters (one or twelve o'clock position) in first and fourth pictures.
and some reeding,
but, I imagine I see several letters from alphabet...counter stamps???

Most of the chop marked coins were over seas. We had a large portion of trade dollars shipped out and they chopped marked them to test the softness of the metal. Not to say that some of them didnt find there way back home or here. Lots of examples on ebay

yes as said, chop marks were a way to authenticate so not a fake.

I marked this as SOLVED. Thank you fellow treasurer hunters for all the great help. Pretty cool to think on how many hands and places this coin could have been, Like jewelerguy said look like chop suey.
