Is this an AA Token?

Found this today, appears to be in pretty good condition, but then again I have no clue as to it's age. I'd guess it's green anodized aluminum, and it's roughly the size of a silver dollar. Is this a sobriety coin from AA (because it says "3 months"), and any idea on it's age?

AA was founded by Bill Wilson, a Wall Street stockbroker and stock analyst, and Dr. Bob Smith, a proctologist from Akron, Ohio, both alcoholics.

Thanks guys! I kind of figured that's what it was, just simply because of the writing. I thought I'd heard the names of the founders before as well. That's a excellent link Don, showed me the exact token.

Yep, that's a 3 month AA token. I member will recieve a token to commemerate lengths of continuous sobriety. There's a 1 month, 3 month, 6 mos, 1 year, and then increments of years afterwards.
Considering how hard a new member has to work to get sober and stay sober the first 3 mos, he must have been pretty disapointed when he lost that. I hope he didn't go get drunk. :o ;D

But you are right...people work hard to get those. I have a "friend" that celebrates 8 years of sobriety today. Last drink Oct.25th,1999

What will I get if/when I quit smoking? More years to my life and a woman that will kiss me more frequently cause i dont stink.
Targeting Nov.1st 2007 to quit, thanks to Montana Jim.

Al, you'll get a congratulations from me, more spare change in your pocket, and a healthier lifestyle. I'm also typing this as I smoke a Cuban Punch cigar. I wish I could give them up, but what the hell, I need vices. I'm also addicted to metal detecting.
Seriously, I have a lot of respect for those guys who join AA because they realize they have a problem and then go and do something about it. I hope this chap stuck around and got another token to replace that one.

A longtime woman friend quit drinking last July 15th. I didn't know much about the tokens, but now that I do I might see if I can get one or two out of her local meeting.
Those XXI ones look nice (and thanks for the link to the Friends of Bill W. site).

There are actually many many variations on the "AA token". AA itself produces none. All of these tokens are produced by individual companies. These tokens vary by producer. The earliest coins used were poker chips and silver dollars. Members would drill a hole in them for each year sober. Then most tokens were made of plastic and were stamped AA on both sides (lengths of sobriety were differentiated by the colors of the plastic). In recent years these have become made of aluminum and many other variations. Point being this is a recent production (within the past 10 years for sure). The busts are the co-founders dr. bob and bill w. (who wasn't actually a stockbroker he was more of a stock speculator). It is now common to see these tokens or 'coins' for 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 months and the various years. Some will also show days instead of months (ex. 30, 60, 90 days).

digmichigan is correct. There are also some that are generic for other Anonymous groupsas well as group specific such as Gamblers, Narcotics, Overeaters, etc. A lot of times but not always, there will be the Serenity Prayer on the back. Some will also have the W,H,O which stands for Willingness, Honesty, and Openmindedness. I just received my 5 year one last night for one of the other groups.

Yeah that is definitely an AA token. I have a three month and one each of one through twelve years. That three month token took me about three years to get if you know what I mean!
