Is this a weird animal bone or something?

I found this on a beach on the east coast, sadly on the trip back home it broke. It has struts similar to a bird bone, but the pattern and shape do not indicate bird. If you could help me with it, it would be much appreciated. It is also quite fragile, and small, sorry for the not so great quality pictures.

Too thin to be a turtle shell... broken sand dollar.

Found on the beach too.
