Is This A Wagon Wheel Hub?

Dug this up around an old house site. Thought it was some type of hub, but not sure. The ring on the right end appears to be brass.

What is in the caged area?Makes me think of a suction hose end like they use in dredging to keep debris out.

Actually, depending on size, probably a buggy wheel hub. Also the old wooden spoke automobiles had hubs something like yours, the my money is on it being for a buggy wheel.

Probably never know exactly what it came off but it is for sure a hub from some sort of old wheel that had wooden spokes.
