"AFL" = American Federation of Labor
"I.B. of T.C.W. & H. of A." = International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen, and Helpers of America.
Thanks Likely Guy!! Do you know an approx. date on this? Is this a Union that's still in existance?

I believe that still is the full name but they go by the "Teamster's Union" or "International Brotherhood of Teamsters" (IBT) now.
Thanks again!!!!

afl joined withforces with the cio back in 1955 to form the afl - cio * --the new joint union kicked out the teamsters in 1957 for massive uncontrolled "corruption" that was bringing federal level heat down upon all the labor unions --at the time the teamsters were the largest single union in the joint afl -cio group but they were out gunned by the rest and kicked out -- this lasted until 1987 when the teamsters were "readmitted" to the afl - cio --under the leadership of jackie presser .

since the pin does not say afl -cio on it --it must be pre 1955 * before they "joined" .

----a bit of history ---
between 1957 and 1987 -- fighting between the teamsters and afl - cio unions over turf and new members was common * each side tried to grab what they could -- the union I belonged to for years --the SIU (seafarers international union--a AFL - CIO union) and the TEAMSTERS locked horns in a deadly battle over turf in 1968 over a cabby union -- in chicago *-- the teamsters had "moved" in on a small time local independant union of cab drivers that had a rather nice bit of cash saved up --the teamster wanted to take over the outfit --the independants knew they didn't have the "musle" to resist the teamsters --- so they came to the afl - cio and said look we will willingly link up with you guys since we will get a better deal then what the teamsters are offering us -- but none of the afl -cio unions at the time wanted any part of fighting the teamsters -- george meany was livid !!--- they come to us willingly to join but youse guys will not take em in cuz yer all scared of the freaking teamsters!!--- finally paul hall the president of the SIU at the time said we the SIU will do it --but in exchange we want a "open" charter to be able to organize any place we can -- (thus allow the SIU to grow greatly in new turf areas ) -- its a deal !!! meany said--- you win you get your "open charter " --if not you just get the knots on yer head and do not count on help from these bums--waving his hand around the room .

it was a vile and nasty mean knock down drag out deadly union war --hoffa and the teamsters vs paul hall and the seafarers --the SIU won in the end getting a "REP" as some very nasty boys in the process.

my pop (long dead) was one of the old SIU "goon squad" muscle boys in those deadly days of 1968 * in chicago --

I 'm (medically) retired after 27 years of going to sea with the SIU .
