Is this a small CW bullet?

I found this today in my relic spot along with some modern bullets and shotshells. The white patina on it suggests to me it's a lot older than a modern bullet, as you can see from its comparison to the modern bullets in the picture.. But was something this small used during the CW? Maybe a .22 sized rifle or pistol? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Something like this 1861 Smith and Wesson rim fire .32 caliber. Manufacture dates 1861 to 1874. I think they were made in .22 caliber also, some one can correct me on that though, don't know for sure. My great grandfather carried one, (I have the gun) he was in an Ohio regiment, and if he ever shot a Reb with it, and the Reb found out, grandpa would have been in real trouble. Very under powered, small bullet and tiny amount of black powder.

Hey thanks for the info. I see you have DFX, too. I found it today with my DFX. I really love that detector. I almost sold it!

That's a real nice gun and interesting story about your great grandpa. I'm pretty sure I'd get upset, too, if someone shot at me.

Did some research and, if it is CW period, it would have come from a Smith & Wesson Model No.1 .22 rimfire. The same gun as above, just in .22 caliber. They were given to officers and soldiers alike for personal protection.
