I got a box each from my BoA branch of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters just to see what the coin distribution in ages was today (what ages might be found in the ground).

The pennies are all 2007 (any errors known yet, or should I just leave those unopened)?

Found a number of 1940, 1941, 1946, and 1949 nickels. But I also found one 1942 nickel with no mint mark. Is it silver alloy (my net search only mentions larger mint marks)?

I was skunked on the quarters (did get a complete state quarter set for my wife, though she doesn't know about condition or mint marks - I ain't telling her either ;)).

I'm 1/3 through the dimes and found a 1949.

How do those compare with other areas? Should I keep looking and perhaps start trying to get halves?

Sorry sheldius,it is not silver.Any nickel without a mintmark was made in philly.

However all silver philly nickels have a large P above the monticello.

Mintmark is not in the usual place on those. Check the back, above Monticello. You should see a "P" "D" or "S" if you have a silver one. Easiest way to tell.

Cheers,
