Hey y’all I was detecting and I found what I think is a rosette. It appears to be brass like, with strange material in the back. The back material is like no mineralization I have seen. Could it be lead? Regardless thanks for reading! 23A56B1F-B85E-454A-9996-C48D7806BE12.jpegBEA1F266-B4B8-4E9D-B827-D93C46AD655B.jpeg

Could be. The lead filled backs sometimes flake like yours when damaged. Also, the rust color could be from the missing iron attachment.

I would say that it's a rosette as well.
I've found a lot of these over the years and the come in all shapes and sizes.
The one identifying characteristic they all share is... copper or brass with a lead backing.

Here are a few examples that I've found.
The last item shown is actually part of a horse blinder that would originally have been covered in leather and could easily be misidentified as a rosette.

Thanks for the responses guys! I was thought it was, but sometimes I can never be sure. It's kind've something to think that Rosette's in a way tell you something more personal about the inhabitants, what with the varying styles of Rosette's and the one's recovered representing their past owner's preferences.
