Found another section similar to this one but lacks the leg.

New: Here is a shot of the first piece after it has been run on electrolysis for two days and a pic of the other piece I mentioned. Also a piece of a cooking pot found nearby. My partner and I plan on going back and digging every iron signal we can with hopes of piecing this thing together. The two drawbacks are that we may end up piecing together a cooking pot also as well as wondering if in fact this was a swivel gun blown up on purpose how much of it ended up in the salt marsh 30 yards away.

Is there a such thing as running an item on electrolysis too long? I am having a hard time getting the core to come clean.

Yep. That is what I'm thinking. Found it 30 yards from the edge of the salt marsh.

Supposing this is the trunnion section of a swivel gun, any help in identifying what origin?

This was the only image I could find that seams to have that profile. The distance from the trunnion to the larger outer step on yours is shorter I think? Some one else will give you more. :dontknow:

I dont know but it looks a lot better. I have left smaller pieces in the tank for days. It may be hard to get a good connection. The more bubbles the better.

If you watch the electrolysis as it is doing its do, you can control it. I wouldn't recommend going to bed and leaving it alone. I soaked a metal plate I found for portions of days, always guarding it, until I felt I had done enough damage to it. Good luck!

I think thats good advice to keep checking it. You also need to keep the area ventilated as the fumes may be poisonous. I used to do mine at the end of the garage with the door propped open a bit. Electrolysis is amazing the way it cleans up iron or steel.

I'm no expert but I'm thinking it looks alot more like the cannon pic than the dock bollard. It's obviously hollow but has very thick walls like a cannon would have and also has the reinforcing ring like the pic of the cannon. Just my 2 cents worth.

I reject my first post and reality and substitute it for your own as it being a cannon. :icon_thumright:
