Is this a petrified wood log or just a worn boulder of some sort?

While it has the superficial appearance of petrified wood, there are many types of flowstones that can have a similar appearance. I would definitely need more and better pictures.

Still time for more coffee.

Looks like it to me. What state are you in? The local geology sometimes tells the tale.

Well, Texas certainly has it's share of petrified wood. The odds of it being good just went up, unless you are in the igneous uplift, forget the name of the place, but they find topaz there.

It might help to tell us what area of the country this was found in. I have a much smaller piece that has the exact same same look/texture on the surface, but upon close examination the chipped areas on it show that it is solid chert underneath. I see in your picture what looks like a white chipped area (just in front of the trailer fender). You might have a local rock/geology club look at the piece to see if someone there can identify the material.

Welcome, diverted. So describe it a bit for us, please. In appearance, it looks like a rotten log. Is it stone? Petrified wood is no longer wood, but has had all of the cells replaced by silica, exactly replicating the original wood. I personally have never seen a petrified rotten log, although I suppose it's possible. Spent a lot of time at Ginko Petrified Forest in Washington State, and used to do some trespass camping on Yuma Proving Grounds, where petrified logs were lying everywhere. Where are you, and describe where it was found. Really remarkable specimen if petrified. Very cool.

Additional details

It is completely stone. Incredibly sharp. I think it must be over 1k lbs. On many of the edges of the openings, there are crystals along the surface. Several of the areas with different colors appear to be different minerals. Here are some additional pics.20180217_075930.webp20180217_075934.webp20180217_075945.webp
