I found this in Saxe Point Park in Esquimalt, BC. Buried down about 4 or so inches on the bank of the parks edge. There was a bit of black crusty material attached but when I ran them through the salt water on shore it cleaned away. While the pictures don't show it the rock is about as big as my thumbnail.

I looked online and I can't see anything that matches it. I talked to a prof who works at UVic in their science dept and he said short of cutting it up or drilling it to see he couldn't really offer an opinion on what it might be.

It doesn't float, it isn't magnetic but came through as a quarter on the detector. I'm using a White's Treasure Master if it helps.

any thoughts?

thanks.

I'll say no however it may have a treasure insided. Try it on another detector first.

Does not, from your images and description, appear to be a meteorite.

Many types of rocks will set off a detector. Some will ID strongly as coins.

Finally time for more coffee.
