Hello,
I am new to the forum and new to meteors.
We found this meteor looking thing, never thought anything of it, we thought it was a piece metal or something.
It sat around are place for over 6 years, we kept it around because it was kinda neat. We then had seen a article on the internet about meteorites and we noticed that they look just like this one we have!
It is aprox 10" long and it is heavy for it's size.
It has a gold sparkle to it when you hold it up to the light,

If anyone can help me out, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks for any info

(I will get a couple more pictures on when they are uploaded)

Looks like slag from a smelting operation.

Could be slag.

I remember when I thought I'd found opal in Wisconsin. I could see the characteristic flashes even.

Turns out it was slag. Lots of places melted iron in the early days.

I'd take it into a geologist to be sure.

just to clear it up for you a meteor would still be in space i do believe but a meteorite is what you pick up off the ground after it lands.

Thanks for the info, I'll take it some place to make sure.
I still have my doubts of it being a piece of slag, because it's a lot heavier then metal.
Thanks again
