I went out detecting using my Equinox 800 on a local beach in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I found this gold “handle” but alas no hallmark. On one side of the item it has, what looks like WHMS and on the other side a date of 1896. It has rusted steel in between each of the sides. My question is what would have this been a handle to?? It took a while to find the missing piece! 66D36731-76DC-4C3A-A66B-B630B940D5CB.pngED77AF58-8BED-4C4E-A98D-CDC16AABA7E0.png

Super find, fella...! :icon_thumright:
That could very well be a handle to a ladies' hair brush.

Looks like WHMT to me. Whoever engraved that die to make that thing was a heck of an artist. Deep European looking engraving like that is generally associated with Austria...but with no mark...who knows? A stunningly beautiful piece. Gary

Jeweler, pawn shop, pm buyer. Get that thing tested. Pretty neat what ever it went to.
