I found this 2 days ago. I think it might be a piece from an old iron cook kettle, but figured I should ask the experts here on treasurenet.

I found it in my yard where 1700's relics have been found before so there is a chance that it could be old. I have cleaned it by removing the surface rust and then applying a coat of oil.
What do you all think? Is it a fragment of an old iron kettle?
