No, I am saying it is a naturally-formed stone formation that is difficult to distinguish from a man-made artefact.

OooooK!

By the way - it's heavy - about 7 pounds....

Marc... I dunno - it seems that the fossilized wood I've found holds every grain and nuance of the wood.

Although it seems very skull-like in a few spots, how can the missing features be so distorted?  No socket and only half an open jaw?

I agree with SWR that it's a natural formation and because it looks skull-ish it's easy for us humans to assign it that way.

It's very cool though... very cool.  Interesting that the "grey matter" is SO different from the rest of it.

Very interesting piece indeed. If it is some type of fossilized skull, it most closely resembles a tortoise of some type (IMO). The "gray matter" is most puzzling to me as it does not look "real". Looks like it was placed there at some point in time. Is that the material you say is chert? Possibly research how chert forms and what the possibilities are of it ending up where it did. As far as the meteor theory - I'll leave that to the scientists...

No - everything is chert BUT the grey stuff. I haven't a clue what the grey stuff is - but it is VERY hard.

Well, the "tendon" you pointed out would more likely be ligament. Ligament attaches bone to bone, wheras tendon attaches bone to muscle. If it were tendon, then it would likely be detached from one end, and it APPEARS to have an insertion point at each end. Definitely looks like bone though and the jaw joint is definitely anatomical for that. Other than that...don't know about your other theories.

Wow! Not sure what you have there but you have to admit it is an item for thought & surely conversation!

Would it be far fetched for me to inquire if an x-ray would help identify it a bit better?

:D
