Found in Arizona. At first glance I thought it was a fossilized Cypress Knee. Nah.

It is 4 inches tall and some sort of stone. The site finally allowed me to upload another pic ARIZ.2.JPG

If petrified cypress wood is found in your area, then I think you're right. The center of the knee was rotted out first, and filled with fine sediment. The ring around the edge is the petrified wood. It all turned to stone over time. IMO. Or, it could be a petrified piece of tree limb, or root.
