I have been trying to locate some information on this item. Notice the ( 2 ) Dolphins on it. I'm still searching the years 1800-1900. This was found with alot of Flat Buttons and alot of coins from the 1800- 1900. I am headed back to this spot Monday, June 10 ,2013 Coin & Button Display 1 .JPG

My first instinct is "submarine"

Many submarine emblems use "marine life"/tail up, in a head to head position.

Further found that it wasn't officially until 1941 Uniform Regualtions dolphins were used.

I'm thinking closer to a band uniform hat emblem-of course, an old one.

try to goog' Musical Lire designs-there are several styles. Amsterdam Musical Hall symbol is close, but no dolphins (Hence, Dutch). However, Dolphins are a symbol of the God Apollo being lore indicates he turned himself into a dolphin to escape the island of Delos. Also, Apollo plucked a golden lire (lyre - spelling variant) which was one of his three symbols. Sometimes considered a celtic design also.
