Hi all,

Going through some of my iron from last year and was wondering if this is a handle off of a cook pot or something similar. It was found less than 10 feet from a hand forged horseshoe and within 15 feet of a logger's pike and part of a logging chain. The area had a logging camp in it from the 1870's-1890's or so. It is a current cattle ranch.

This pics are not the best. I will get the "good" lights tomorrow and take better pics if they are needed. The item measures about 4 inches and is 3/8 inches thick at the thickest part. It tapers at both ends.

Thanks in advamce for your time and help.

Doug

to me your hand would be too close to the pot lid to be a handle. was thinking tea pot but pretty substantial, it appears solid?

maybe something more heavy like a tool box, safe box. also remember it could have been leather wrapped and been a doctors bag or other.

in other words i have no idea....

Looks like half of a chain link, the tapered ends are where the next link wore through it. If I remember right my old log tongs have an oval link on them also. Would fit with skidding logs with animals. There are some good vids on you tube of skidding with horses and mules.
