Re: Is this a clock pendulum weight?

Maybe it just the lead out of the back of a decorative rosette. :dontknow:

Re: Is this a clock pendulum weight?

Creskal, it has a relief design on both front and back (not an insert) so it seems unlikely it would be a pendulem weight as a weight would have no need for a design on the back. Have you checked the edge for any trace of rust or green corrosion in one or two spots to suggest it might be a seal?

I think you're right johnnyi that it has relief both sides. Maybe a table clock that can be viewed from both sides :dontknow:

Re: Is this a clock pendulum weight?

I was going to say rosette also but looking at the design on the back, I think that is ruled out. It looks like the back was more corroded and that is why it looks like it could have been full of lead? I guess the composition of the metal is a pot metal or white metal. Most clock pieces I have found were made out of brass. I don't know. :icon_scratch:

Looks more pewter than lead :icon_thumright:

An identical item was identified as a pendulum weight in "Ask Mark Parker" not too long ago.

Scroll down to "Weight a Minute" at:

http://www.treasurenet.com/treasures/askmarkparker/200904.htm

Found several similar clock weights or bobs online. Here's an example, with Creskol's (inverted above) on the right.

Now That's what I call one heck of a great ID! Thank you very much! A green check is on the way!
