✅ SOLVED Is This A Civil War Medal?

I'm hoping the experts here can ID this medal for me. Its non-magnetic and probably brass. The medal measures 5/8 inches wide by 9/16 inches tall. The back is marked W. & H. Co. which I believe stands for Wightman & Hough. They were in business from about 1856 to 1922. Any ideas?

No. It's from a First World War veteran's organization known as 40/8. Meaning 40 men or 8 mules to a railroad car. I believe it was primarily for men in the transportation corps, but I'm not sure. It was a popular organization in the 30s and 40s, but like World War One veterans, it is no more. There was lots of memorabilia from this group. W.H. stands for Whitehead and Hoag from Newark, NJ was in business from 1896 to the early 1960s. W.H. was the first manufacturer of celluloid buttons and the largest manufacturer of pinbacks and medals for many years.

No. Whitehead and hoag didn't team up until 1892. So that's prob from mid/early 1900's
