Is this a civil war button?

hey all, how is it going? havent been here in a while, been just to busy to detect and the ground is dry but got out today for a while. found this button at a old farm house prolly built mid 1800's cant seem to find anything like it ,, anybody got any idea? im pretty sure it reads ''waterbury button co.'' ''conn'' on the back... thanks all for the help!!!

It's a mid to late 1800's "stock" (generic) P-letter pattern button, usually used on police uniforms.

A very similar button is still being made by the Waterbury Button Co. today.

Having worn a Police uniform for the better part of 22 years I know about these darn things. The original uniform buttons usually had the name of the PD on them but they got too expensive to make and this is the generic button that replaced them. Here's a pic of the original expensive buttons for a comparison. Monty
