Hello:

Don't post here so much. I dug this up in only four inches or so in a field. I was using the Whites Spectra. It had a VDI between 88 and 91. It showed a good target on the graph. A high narrow green hump for those of you who use the whites spectra. I have seen these plates before, but I could not remember what time period it was from. I just cleaned it with water only. Should something like this be cleaned any more or should I let it alone?

Leave it alone.....Conratulation's on a sweet plate

wonderful find ticm. You might want to go back and check your hole just on the off chance the wreath is there also.

Appears to be CW period...missing the "wreath" as usual. Nice find!!
Don't clean anymore.....

So, there is more of this plate? What is missing. (Sorry to sound dumb.) I will go out and look for sure.

I wouldn't put anything on it. Just water and light brushing with a tooth brush will do. The other piece they are referring to is called a belt plate keeper. Here is a link to a picture of one....

Nice find. :icon_thumright: I've found a couple of those type of keepers, but not that particular belt plate yet. Congrats! :hello2:

Ticm... There was a wreath (silver colored) that was soldered to the front. ( Went around both sides and the bottom of the eagle)
