I posted this the other day under a different heading and did not get much response. Ironpatch was kind enough to weigh-in, but I am hoping to get a few more opinions.

I found this a couple of days ago and I believe it is a Charles II farthing minted from 1672-1679. The coin is copper and has a diameter of 21-22mm.

DSCN0760.JPGThe ponytails seem very characteristic of the coin in question

Not much to see on the reverse:

Thanks in advance

I would say it is, diameter is right, left facing bust....looks good

Thanks. It is good to get some input from the UK. I am sure these coins are fairly commonly found in Britain. They are less common on the river bottoms of South Carolina. I will be pretty stoked if I can get a positive ID.

Believe me when I say....they are not common finds here either, most of the dug coppers I find are unidentifiable, but the odd good one pops out from time to time, Charles 11 produced the first copper half penny, so it would be nice to get one of those.

The most likely date & the one I dig the most (being the most common) is 1675, so odds are this one is that date. Dad & I find about 1 every 2 weeks.

Thanks SS and Crusader. With your combined experience, I can safely mark this as "solved"
