Is this a button?????

Hey I found this today in my neighbors yard who I got permission from and her yard was in 1901. I found this and it came in as a dime signal a strong hit and was down about 6 inches. I'm wondering if it's some kind of military button? It says "militaire equipments" on it. What is that? Here's a picture if the button or whatever it is here you go hopefully we can find out what it is thanks a lot I really appreciate it!!!!
