Is this a button? Seems too big.

Dug this up today in my backyard. It is some type of ferrous metal. At first I thought it was the bottom of a soda can, but when I washed it up, I noticed a loop/shank on the back.

So, it looks like a button, but it's 2-1/8"...seems too big for a button. Any other ideas?

Is that measurement the TOTAL size or just the diameter of the INSIDE circle? Looks like a button that had the front peeled back open.

That's the total diameter of the piece. (Roughly, of course, since it's not a perfect circle.)

Think back to the 60s/70s and some of the HUGE buttons that were on some women's coats. The were a metal backing with a stamped cloth cover on them... I'll bet that's one of them.

Well, no button is really " too big" Usually the bigger the button the older it usually is. Here is an "opera" button I found in TN a couple months back. Now, this a big button! lol Cheers
