After seeing the above pic you posted, I would say it's safe to say your find is the center portion of an earring. The screw back earrings were popular in the 1950's.

Breezie, the picture I replied with were of earrings, I only posted for the design similarity.

The size of the disk of my find is larger than a quarter! I'm not sure it would FIT on most ladies ears with as large as it is. A good suggestion, but I don't think it works...

Due to the large size of ladies earrings in the 1950's (and the come-back in the late 1980s to early 1990s) it is possible your find could be an earring. It could also be a decorative piece on a ladies purse or it could be part of a coat button. Whatever its use, I think it is from the 1950's. Below are a few pics of large earrings from the 1950's. The last pic is from 1989-1990. All are larger than a quarter.

Hopefully this thread will post. I found an object very similar to yours as far as the two headed eagle goes. As to whether or not it's an earring I don't know but Breezie is right,they wore some big honkin' earrings back in the day.
