Can anyone tell me if this is a bullet, and if so what kind? I didn't think it was but my old man thinks it is. It is made of lead and is a heavy little thing. The crusty penny used for size comparison is a 1958 wheatie, which is my first ever wheatie. Overall an okay day.

It does look similar in profile to a semi wadcutter bullet. Although I've never seen one with such a cavernous hollow base.

Can you tell us an approximate caliber and weight?

Thanks for the ID. My father thought it was a bit strange to find in his yard; has to be before 1977 when my parents bought the house because he says he never fired any kind of weapon in the backyard. The house itself was built in 1952.

The 45 ACP has been in use for a hundred years.
That round may have just landed in the yard.
if it had been fired it would have been pretty much obliterated.

Before the ACP The 45 long Colt was the military issued side arm.
This caliber has been around for a long time.

My first thought was a weight for a counter balance scale. But, since I do not know a whole heckuva lot about old bullets, you guys are probably more right than I am.
