Is this a bullet or musket ball, or??

I found this out in an abandoned field. I think it's made of lead, very heavy for its size. But the markings are strange, and are on all sides of the item. It has a bit of a whitish patina on it that didn't come off when I scrubbed it with a toothbrush to get the mud off.

Any ideas?

It does look chewed, doesn't it? You'd think someone would chew it with their back teeth, though.

It almost looks like there is a pattern to the marks. I don't think it is chewed.

Yup, most likely a musket ball or shot with cuts made by some bored soldier.
