This was found in Missouri on a site that yielded a few Civil War era pieces. When I dug this, I thought it was a thick washer type of trash, but after cleaning it, I got a little surprise. It is about the size of a Silver Dollar, and appears to be brass or copper with no markings of any kind visible. Anybody care to venture a guess??? Thanks for looking. CJ

I will say Brooch because it was the most common jewelry worn by our Civil War ladies.......Removable cotton or lace collars were worn during that time period and were always held by simple ribbon or brooch.......... .Hats would have been light straw or bonnets...no need for hat pins ....I am not saying they didnt have them for special occasions ,but most ladies didnt wear them on a day to day basis.....

The pic isn't clear enough, but that looks like a cap nut on the front. To me it looks like an ornament for a piece of furniture or something similar.

After posting my opinion, I found a site that has similar stamped rosettes. Not real close, but a suggestion. Frank Morrow Company.
